Shifting back to Blogger

August 7, 2011

Two years back I had registered the domain www.vishwaskrishna.com, mainly because I did not want anyone else to register that one. And after an year, I failed to renew it. Yesterday, when I proceeded to register it again in blogger.com, it said that the domain was already registered.

Losing no hope, I checked it’s availability again, with one of the domain providers and fortunately, it was still available (note to self: you are still not that famous). Registered it immediately. I originally had planned to use different domains for different purposes (at one point, I had at least three domains). But, now, that seems a very foolish idea. So, all my future blogposts can be read there i.e, vishwaskrishna.com. But I’m not closing this blog either.

If there is any problem with the servers or if I fail to renew it again (remote possibility now) I will come back and post here.

Rangashankara show of Aneesh-Sheela

May 25, 2011

Acting is addictive. It is not even a week since we performed at Rangashankara (19th May), and here I’m, looking forward to the next show and unfortunately, nothing is finalised yet.

I was not satisfied with the quality of photos of our earlier shows and had not posted any.  I had only posted the rehearsal photos. Now, thanks to Ravindra Kampli, we have super photos of the play Aneesh-Sheela.

I enjoyed performing at Rangashankara as the stage is made of wood, compared to the one we in Mysore have at Sriranga, which by all standards is a hopeless stage, if at all it is to be called a stage. The best theatre in Mysore (even Karnataka) is  Bhoomigeetha, but it is not open to everyone unlike Sriranga. But my only grouse against Rangashankara is the seating arrangement. It is like an amphitheatre with ascending seating arrangement. When I was handling music, which is akin to watching the play from the topmost row, for the other play we performed there (Madhya Ratriya Tiganegalu) , I did not get a very clear view.

I hope we in Mysore will get such a super theatre very soon (there is one coming up next to Kalamandira, though I would not expect it to be even half as good as Rangashankara). And thanks to Ms.Arundathi Nag for the wonderful coffee, encouraging words and few tips for performing at Rangashankara.

Prajavani review of Aneesh-Sheela

April 14, 2011

Narayan Kikkeri of Prajavani has written a very nice (and personally very gratifying) review of the play Aneesh Sheela (don’t ask me why I’m posting that here- click here to refresh your memory). The review was published on last Saturday (9th April, 2011) in the Metro issue of the newspaper.

I’m posting the images of the article as Mysore issue is still not available online on their website.

The article as it appeared. Click on the second image to read the review. The text in the first image is not so clear.

Few photos of the play Aneesh Sheela, where I played the lead role of Aneesh. The play is about a young couple who find it difficult to bear each other for different reasons. How they come to terms with the reality of their love is what the play is all about. This play is written by Arya Acharya of Dharwad. This is based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s “A Temporary Matter”.

The play was performed at Sriranga, Rangayana, Mysore on 18th and 19th of March, 2011. We have planned further shows too, but I’m not sure of the dates as yet, except for Rangashakara, Bangalore show which is on May 19th, 2011.

Cast and Crew of the play:

Narrator: Haneef Mohammed

Sheela: Sushma Nanaiah

Aneesh: Myself

Costumes: Sushma Nanaiah

Lighting: Krishnakumar Narnakaje

Music: Prashanth S Hiremath

Design: H K Dwarakanath

Direction: Prabhuswamy Malimath

Special thanks to Rajesh B,  Ramachandra Ganga, Hariprasad Kashyap, Raviprasad and Vinay Kumar S for believing that I could do this role and giving me valuable inputs throughout the duration of our rehearsals.

Also, I cannot forget the help of super actors of Rangayana, Prashanth S Hiremath, Nandini K R and Krishnakumar Narnakaje for giving me very straightforward and brutally honest inputs about my performance.

Before this starts to read like an Oscar speech, I have to say that I enjoyed playing this part a lot and also the entire process of the rehearsals. For this, I have to thank the director for giving me an opportunity to do this role.

And a very special thanks to Sushma Nanaiah for patiently tolerating my performance continuously for two months.

This is one of the videos which was made for Hindustan Time’s “No TV Day” campaign on January 29th 2011. Produced and directed by Gangwayz Productions (Islahuddin and Ajay Singh, mainly).

In case you are wondering why I have posted this video on my blog, guess the obvious.

Why it is so difficult to read Kannada newspapers?

December 23, 2010

prajavani_sports_page

Today, we received a complimentary copy of PrajaVani and it was very difficult to go through even half of the entire content. There was definitely nothing which could be said disgusting, but the way the paper was so carelessly and unprofessionally designed, it felt as if the designers didn’t want us to go through the entire newspaper. Somehow, having got used to the professional look of The Hindu, which is so easy to read, it requires a lot of perseverance to leaf through even the complimentary copy of PrajaVani (or any other Kannada newspaper).

SUPER Review

Kannada Film Super

Today, we (the Royal “We”, of course) received an anonymous mail with the subject “Super Tapes” (no connection with Nira Radia tapes). In this tape, Rockline Venkatesh, the producer of super hit Kannada movie “SUPER” is talking to superstar “Real Star” Upendra, who wrote the story, screenplay, dialogues and directed the movie and also played the lead role.

Warning: It has not been possible by us to verify the authenticity of this tape with the Income Tax department, who supposedly recorded this conversation. Lytta blog presents the full transcript of their conversation as it is, without editing any portion of the tape.

TRANSCRIPT:

Rockline to Upendra: “Look, the concept is fine, but there are no commercial elements. People do not need moral science lessons.”

Upendra: “You have to understand that I’m planning to enter politics. And you know how difficult this bloody thing is. I cannot act or direct like I used to do earlier. Now, I have to be conscious of my image. You cannot expect this film to be like Upendra or A, where I had no such restrictions, whether as an actor or as a director. “

Rockline: “Ok, I understand, but what are you planning to do that effect?”

Upendra: “I will reiterate every now and then that I love India and Karnataka. Even if the audience forget the film, they will (have to), at least, remember that I love my motherland. I’ll insert some scenes where my love for my motherland will be demonstrated beyond doubt. I know it will be very boring, but please bear in mind my future career in politics.”

Rockline: (to himself: “God, I don’t want to this to be another patriotic film. They don’t make money. But I don’t want to say “No” to this guy either. These days anyone can become the Chief Minister of Karnataka. I have to be in his good books of this guy, who knows, he may end up as the CM of this state”) (this was confirmed with god, as told to us by the person who leaked this tape)

“Ok, but please don’t overdo it. I don’t want people to think that this is a patriotic movie.”

Upendra: “Don’t worry about that, there are enough distractions from the main story. I will only use the first half to promote myself. After they are through with the second half, they will forget about the first half story. Trust me.”

Rockline (Still very skeptical): “Please remember, I’m not ready to spend so much for just the message. I need something else apart from just the story”

Upendra: “Ok, then, I will add few songs. I know it is not necessary, but songs come under the term “commercial elements”, right? Let us also include another actress who will be there only to show her big boobs and thighs so that those who cannot understand the message or do not want to, will have other things to look at.”

Rockline: “Good, good. I know you do know the taste of the Kannada audience. You know, I’m in love with that scene where you blame the Indians for tolerating every injustice meted out to them. And that “satpraje”(meaning good citizen) and “satta praje” (dead citizen) terms are really very catchy. Uppi, I have a request, hope you don’t mind. It’s been a long time since I appeared on the screen. Since this is my film, I would like to be there on screen too.”

Upendra: “As of now, there is no such role or scene, but never mind; I will write a scene which is definitely not required. Since our audience comprise no one, but Indians, they will tolerate these kinds of things too. In that case, I will cast my parents too. They would like to appear on screen too”

Rockline: “Of course, through our film we shall prove that we Indians, especially Kannadigas, tolerate everything. And don’t forget, I want to make as much money as possible from this film. I know, I will, since this is your first directorial venture in last ten years. We will definitely have a good opening. But I need more money.”

Upendra: “Don’t worry; I have a solution for that, let us release this in other South Indian languages too. Let me cast two or Telugu/Tamil actors for this purpose. That way we can create the interest and you know, I’m a known face in Telugu and to some extent Tamil too, what say?”

Rockline: “Yes, yes. Good idea. I’m glad that other film industries allow dubbing. We may not allow others to voice dub their movies to Kannada, but that doesn’t stop us from dubbing our movies to their language, right? Now, please don’t call me a hypocrite”

Upendra: “Don’t worry, I won’t. I have dubbed few of my earlier movies too. Kannada industry has to go beyond Karnataka. I accept people are not watching Kannada movies in Karnataka, but I think that itself is a strong reason to dub our movies and send it to other states. When can we start the shooting?”

Rockline: “Anytime you say. But I have promised to take my family to a tour of London, as soon as I’m back, we will start the shooting.”

Upendra: “Wait a minute, did you say London? Gosh, why did I not think of this earlier? We shall shoot some portion, including yours, in London. That way, we can fulfil the customary abroad shooting and you can also enjoy your family tour. Ok?”

Rockline: “Super”

More on Lytta

December 15, 2010
Why did I create this new blog?

Because there are so many topics which are worth writing about. I like to read about the state of politics in Karnataka, the Kannada film industry, Chess in India and elsewhere, about Mysore, theatre (especially Rangayana) and many other topics, which at the time of writing this article I cannot remember.

I don’t see many blogs covering these topics in detail. Of course, churumuri.com is the best blog site for anything on Karnataka. But, as I have already mentioned, I like reading about other things too. No one else is giving me an opportunity to do so. So, I thought, why should I not write something worth reading about my favourite topics, at least, for my sake.

Why Lytta?

December 13, 2010
This is a temporary post till I dust my brain and gather my thoughts. As for the name of the blog, I wanted a short name which meant madness. Lytta is a word derived from the Greek mythology. There, Lyssa was the spirit of mad rage, frenzy and rabies in animals. And Lytta is what Athenians call Lyssa. Though I’m not an Athenian, I liked Lytta (also, Lyssa wasn’t available). More information on this Greek character can be found here. I hope this is better than the default “Hello World” post of WordPress.
